From ownership to access

The music industry is shifting from a model of ownership to a model of access.

It’s an interesting premise. I’m stuck in the past, having trouble moving to the new model. Fundamentally, I don’t like the idea of having to pay a monthly fee, like I do for cable, to listen to music. I like knowing that my money bought a specific product that I will have access to at my own discretion. I also like the idea of having something tangible to show for my money.

For me, the access model looses the nostalgic, romantic quality associated with purchasing music. And, I feel like that is a vital part of the music experience.
