As I've mentioned before, a group of my friends and I have decided to participate in Lent this year. Thus far, I haven't given in to temptation, although a few of my friends have. I wont name names, but you know who you are. Yesterday, I came across an article in Relevant Magazine that dealt with the Lenten fast, so I thought I'd share it here.
The part of the article I found most interesting, and helpful, was the paragraph titled Remember to Pray. It caused me to stop and think about the fact that thus far I've been relying on myself to get through my fast and have completely missed the entire point of participating in Lent at all. These are my 40 days to rely on God, just as Jesus did during his time in the desert, and I've only been relying on myself.
While fasting from Coke is not really that big of a commitment in the grand scheme of things, I do want to take it seriously and use those moments when I'm tempted to give into the sweet nectar of the gods to focus my attention on the one true God. This is my time in the desert and it's time to make the most of it.
