Is My Math Correct?

I was just thinking about this, so let me know if my math is correct. The LA County sales tax is about to increase to 9.75%?

The state government is raising the sales tax by 1% state-wide to help with our budget issues, and we in LA County voted for a .5% increase for increased transportation funding with Measure R.  Those two increases will bring our 8.25% sales tax to 9.75%.  Isn’t that crazy?

I’ve lived in LA County all my life, and as far back as I can remember the sales tax has always been 8.25%.  When I was younger I thought it was cool to go over to Orange County where they had a slightly lower sales tax, but now it might be worthwhile to do more shopping outside the county.

Now, before you get upset with me, I know shopping outside of my community would not be good for my local economy so I won’t make a conscious decision to shop elsewhere; but gosh, raising taxes in a down economy doesn’t seem like a great idea.
