Did you know that you can load small computer applications onto your USB Flash Drive and run them directly from that drive on any computer? What’s even cooler is that these apps leave no traces on the computer you use them on. It’s kind of top-secret, spy-type stuff. At least it makes me feel that way.
I’ve known about this for a while, but only decided to try it out recently. I found my applications on pendriveapps.com. So far I’ve only tested portable versions of Mozilla’s Firefox (web browser) and Thunderbird (email client) programs. They work great. I have my personal bookmarks and cool plug-ins installed on my portable version of Firefox and I set up gmail’s imap feature to work through Thunderbird so I’m less distracted at work by my personal email and don’t have to have gmail up and running all the time.
There are tons of other apps out there to try. I’ve seen everything from financial programs to portable versions of Linux. If this seems like something that might be useful to you, I urge you to check it out. Even if it’s not that useful, it’s kind of fun.
