Coffee and Work

I love coffee but isn’t it a little odd that most workplaces provide it to you free of charge? They don’t provide alcohol, or nicotine laden cigarettes, but they provide coffee, a drink which contains another legal drug: caffeine.   Weird, huh? If you think about it, they probably provide coffee because it’s in their best interest.  It stimulates you early in the morning when the last thing you want to think about is work.   All this time I thought that my employer provided coffee to me out of the goodness of their heart, but it turns out it’s just another way to get me moving in the morning.   How dissapointing!

  1. I hadn’t thought about that. Maybe we should take all the free coffee and dump it in protest. The Los Angeles Coffee Party! Caffeination without representation!I read somewhere that it wasn’t so much electric lighting but the dissemination of caffeine in Western countries that resulted in long work days, regardless of when the sun comes up.
