There's a great article over at the Financial Times called The Joy Of Giving 'Til It Hurts about Abigail Disney and her attempts to challenge others to give until it hurts. It's an interesting concept, one that brings up images of the widow giving her last mite. But, biblically speaking, as Christians, are we called to give until it hurts? I don't feel like I've ever really been taught that in church. Giving is something that is rarely talked about, and when it is it's more about how you can give through service and less about how you should give monetarily. Are we missing something? Is it just a coincidence that Jesus refers to money so many times throughout the Gospels? I'm not clear on the answer to these questions, but I will confess that I definitely do not give until it hurts.
