Independence Day

Last night, as I was lighting legal fireworks at my aunt’s house in La Mirada I couldn’t help but wonder if any of us were actually setting off fireworks because we were truly celebrating our independence.   If you surveyed 10 people last night I would be willing to bet that 9 out of 10 people were having parties and lighting fireworks because they had a vacation day, not because they were celebrating our nation’s independence from British rule.   Just a hunch.
