Today as I was drinking a Coke that didn’t taste quite right because the carbonated water/syrup ratio was off, I couldn’t help but think back to my childhood when a Coke was a treat and not a staple. In my adult life, I drink so much Coke that it hardly bothers me when it doesn’t taste of perfection, as a Coke should. Don’t get me wrong, I love my Coke, but I long for the days when it was truly something special, not something expected. I think my parents did me right by only allowing soda consumption on special occasions and so, in that spirit, I feel I must pull away from my daily Coke habit and move toward a Coke light diet. From this day forward, I pledge to only drink Coke when it is a treat, and not when it acts as my only source of liquid for the day.
