We all know that God came down to Earth, died, and was resurrected for the forgiveness of our sins, but how many of us really stop to think about what that means?
We read powerful verses like John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that he sent his only begotten son…” and we get this wonderful picture of a father sacrificing his son for our good, but what we miss in that picture is that the Son, and the Father, along with the Holy Spirit, are all equal parts God. If you are anything like me you get this idea of some sort of hierarchy among the Godhead when you hear that God sent his son for us. I think that is an inaccurate picture, as is evidenced by scripture, and if we put that picture aside and think of Christ as being equally God then this idea of coming down to Earth for the forgiveness of our sins is even more impressive. Think about it, God himself came down to Earth, walked and talked with us, was tortured by us, died at our hand, and raised himself from the dead all so that we could be forgiven of our sin; that horrible force that separates us from Him. What a wonderful picture.
