About two weeks ago the company I work for had a Bowl-A-Thon to raise funds to “Strike out Homelessness”. Yes, I know it’s pretty corny but that’s not what I’m here to talk about. What I am here to talk about is this: for that event we made several hundred t-shirts to commemorate the day. After the event was over we still had several hundred shirts left over, which we plan to use for next year. However, those shirts were not folded in any way, shape, or form. So, today, I decided to tackle the job of folding them.
“Do you want to come to MY house and fold MY laundry?”
“What are you doing with those shirts?”
“Brian, I think you missed your calling.”
“Are you going to leave us for retail?”
“You know, I got through college by folding shirts in the men’s underwear department.”
“Have you worked for the GAP?”
Now, I think I have a pretty good sense of humor and I’ve played along with each comment thus far, but am I a bad person if I just want to turn up my ipod and tune them all out? I guess if I had done that you wouldn’t have the pleasure of reading this post. Oh, the sacrifices I make.
An Evening for the Station

This is the poster designed by Tim Biskup for the Union Station Foundation Benefit Concert that is occupying all of my time at work. In fact, this morning, a Saturday, I have to go begin decorating for the event. I must admit I’m a little excited, but I’m also a little bummed that I’m going to probably have to work this weekend and next.
Union Station Foundation

After spending three years of my post-undergraduate career working for the institution which, perhaps foolishly, granted me the title of Bachelor of Arts in Religion, I have decided to embark on a new endeavor. In less than two short weeks I will begin work with the Union Station Foundation of Pasadena, California as their Development Associate.
In an effort to ward off questions of what exactly the Union Station Foundation is and does, please read the description below borrowed from their website.
Union Station Foundation (USF), located in Pasadena, California, is the San Gabriel Valley’s largest private agency serving the poor and homeless. Union Station offers emergency and transitional housing for individuals and families, hot meals, job development, healthcare, case management services and substance abuse recovery support. Every year, we serve over 145,000 meals and provide 30,000 nights of shelter to our clients.
All of Union Station’s programs and services are free of charge and designed to help program participants find permanent solutions to homelessness. The work of Union Station is carried out by the efforts of a skilled professional staff, devoted community volunteers and generous supporters.
