Jury Duty Revelation

March 6th, 2012 § 1 Comment

I had a revelation on Friday while I was sitting in a Los Angeles court room suffering though the juror selection process.

My revelation was that Jury Duty isn’t all bad. When else do you get an hour and a half long lunch and the opportunity to explore a little piece of downtown LA?

So, when my lunch break came I grabbed a quick bite to eat and set out exploring. My list of sites that day included the MOCA, Angels Flight and the Walt Disney Concert Hall.

Before lunch, my day started at the beautiful Walt Disney Concert Hall. It also serves as your free juror parking.

My first lunch stop was the MOCA. If you didn’t already know, the MOCA loves jurors. They will give you free admission with you juror badge and allow you experience some amazing art.

My second lunch stop was Angels Flight. Angels Flight is a cheap, nostalgic ride into the Los Angeles of yesteryear. Even if you don’t take the $1 ride it is a great photo opp.

And there is so much more to see. An hour and a half can go pretty quickly as you wonder around downtown. It makes me almost wish I could continue my juror service.

So, if you are ever stuck downtown, make sure you stop and look around. It will make jury duty feel almost like a vacation.

Random Thoughts

Clippers
I can’t believe some of the reactions I’m hearing regarding Chauncey Billups’ achilles tendon injury. It’s not the Clippers curse, although I have to admit that I’m a little confused as to how things turned around so drastically in one year, and it’s not good news. It really bothers me that some are rejoicing in the misfortune of Billups and the Clippers. Come on. These are real people. Let’s see some compassion.

Lana Del Rey
With her recent SNL flop of a performance, I was curious to listen to her new album. I don’t know how much of it she’s responsible for, but I really like it. It’s a dark, moody collection of songs manufactured for both indie and pop appeal. I think it works.

Politics
I hate politics. Are rich, career politicians really all there are to choose from? And, can’t we put aside differences and work together? I’m tired of people disagreeing with each other because their party says they are supposed to.

Kosher Jesus
Apparently, there’s a new book titled “Kosher Jesus.” I just read a little about the controversy it’s raising over at the LA Times. What amazes me is the reactions people are giving after having just read the title. Weren’t we taught to not judge books by their covers? Furthermore, have you ever read a book you 100% agree with? We need to move back to that place where we think for ourselves and draw our own conclusions. Reading books you don’t agree with is a great way to find, and challenge your own beliefs. If you’re afraid of being swayed, you probably have some work to do.
